Biography

Debi original name Gurdev Singh Gill was born on 10 June[2] in the village Makhsoospur, in Hoshiarpur (Punjab). He now lives in Canada and has 3 daughters.

Makhsoospuri got his break at the age of 20 when he started writing for Kuldeep Manak. Since then he has written songs and poetry for artists such as Sardool Sikander, Hans Raj Hans, Manmohan Waris and Kamal Heer. He made his singing debut in 1994 with the album Jad Maa Nayi Rehndi. He has released 11 studio albums and 4 live albums.

Dj Sanj Biography

DJ SANJ’s career in the music industry started while living in Toronto, Canada. In his early days, he produced several hit Desi mix tapes and over the past decade, has escalated from a local DJ to International Superstar. DJ SANJ is the only producer to have multiple production deals with Bollywood Giant Eros Entertainment, Universal India and UK’s Largest Brit Asian Record Label MovieBox.

In early 2000, DJ SANJ moved to the UK to produce full time for Envy Enterainment, an established UK label producing Desi and Asian Flavors. Albums like his America’s Most Wanted series and international hits like Das Ja, The Next Episode and Tenu Bulondi made DJ SANJ a household name in the British Asian Music Scene.

Around 2005, DJ SANJ ventured into his first RnB/Hiphop album entitled J-NAS/Asian RnB. The album was a perfect showcase of DJ SANJ’s production and writing skills. The album received critical acclaim and was released in Japan UK/Europe and North America. It featured such artists as the infamous DJ Clue, US rapper David Banner, Old school legend Rob Base,and UK super stars DJ Luck and MC Neat. Over the years DJ SANJ has also collaborated with a variety of great artists and talents such as reggae icon Shabba Ranks, UK Girl Band Rouge, DJ Tim Deluxe, Canadian pop stars Sugar Jones.

After 150 plus songs and over 15 albums to his credit DJ SANJ shifted his sights onto the largest film industry in the world – Bollywood. Since his move to Mumbai in 2007, Dj SANJ has racked up a heap of collaborations and hits in the Bollywood film industry. He recently worked on “Love Aaj Kal” one of the highest grossing Bollywood Films in the last decade and is currently the most sought after Desi producer and DJ in the world.

His production credits include collaborations with some of India’s top music directors Pritam, Anu Malik, Shankar Eshan Loy and Punjabi music mogul Jaidev Kumar. DJ SANJ has also produced for living legends Amitab Bachchan and Gurdas Maan to Harbhajan Maan, Oscar Winner Sukwinder Singh and Sonu Nigam.

Kamal Heer Biography

Kamal Heer is one of the best singers Punjab has ever produced. He is a versatile artist and performer. He is one of the last generation of singers to learn the techniques and subtlety of complicated Hindustani music from a guru. He is a great dancer and has extreme control over his voice. His live shows are legendary, filling the air with great energy and mesmerizing the audience. Kamal Heer was born in the village of Halluwal in Punjab, India. His older brothers were both studying music so he got hooked on music at the early age of seven. Kamal’s eldest brother Manmohan Waris is a well-known Punjabi singer. Middle brother Sangtar, is a music composer and composes for both his brothers as well as others.

Kamal studied classical music under Ustad Sh.. Jaswant Singh Bhanwra. At the age of 16, Kamal moved to Canada and there he began his music career. He started composing music along with his brother Sangtar. Together they created many hit albums for Manmohan Waris and others. Kamal released his debut album “Kamli”, in 2000 on the record label Magna Sound. Listeners and music critics equally welcomed the album as a new milestone in Punjabi music. Two years later, in 2002 Plasma Records released his second album “Masti”. The album’s success was phenomenal and following in the tradition of his brothers Kamal became a star . Music fans everywhere loved thealbum. The title song “Bhajan Kuray” hit a note with the young generation.

The first single ballad ‘Yaad Aaegi’ made a deep impression on everyone who heard it. But it was the third single from this album, ‘Kanthe Vala’ that broke all boundaries and took Kamal to the top spectrum of stardom. The song’s melody along with its video portrayed Punjabi culture in such a positive way that the younger generations were forced to rethink their culture’s roots. Satinder Sartaj was born in an ordinary farmer family of remote and drowsy village Bajrawarpur in Hoshiarpur district of Punjab state. In his childhood, Satinder Sartaj was too much inspired by the nature and very serious about the aspects of life. Since then he used to praise the beauty of nature. Every natural phenomenon inspires Satinder Sartaj very much. He studied in the Government school of his village Bajrawarpur till 5th class.

Curiously, he used to marvel at the beauty and fragrance of flowers, spectrum of rainbow, the water springs in the calm surroundings besides the melodic strains of music that flowed from a flute and sarangi which the wandering folk and sufi musicians played.

As a child he developed a taste for the perfect Punjabi tradition and the Sufiana Qalaams though apparently it was not within his conceptual grasp. However an intense desire to learn and imbibe the rich mysticism of sufiana music dominated in his educational career.

Following the passion of his inner soul, Satinder Sartaj concentrated on his sufiana musical career having done his M. Phil in Sufi music singing and later a doctorate in Sufi singing (gayan) from Punjab University. With a view to have an close feel of the divine radiance and mystic experiences of the greats like Jalludin Rumi, Shams Tabrezi from Iran, Satinder Sartaj had secured a diploma in Persian with distinction.

When Satinder Sartaj started singing, he felt to have a different surname. One night he was sleeping in hostel of the university, and woke up at 3 AM tried but couldn’t sleep again. He picked up the paper-pen, starts writing the song, and the last line was ‘Tere Sir Taareyan Da Taj Ve’ at this moment he adopted the surname Sartaj.

Revealing in the glory of the mysticism of Baba Farid, Bulle Shah, Sultan Bahu, Shah Hussain and others, the accomplished singer Satinder Sartaj had recorded his first album of Sufi music called Mehfil-E-Sartaj. Now he writes like Waris Shah, Dresses like Waris Shah.

Bohemia as a young teen and started learning how to play harmonium at a very young age from his father. Raja used rapping as an outlet to escape from his thug life style. He took a bold step and became a local musician who played along with artists such as Sunil Khanna (you will find him listed in Sunil s bio) and Manesh Judge. Sunil has referred to Ra as a great musician and a poet; Ra soon started putting his poetry to his music and gave birth to Bohemia, the punjabi rapper. Through his experiences, come raw raps depicting not just California street life, but a life many South Asians lead in America. His lyrics are in Punjabi, while many of the hooks are in English. Raja looks up to artists such as Jagjit Singh and the late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Bohemia s first album, Vich Pardesan De (In The Foreign Lands), was released independently in 2002 and was soon among the top ten most requested songs on BBC radio 1 in the UK. His next album, Pesa Nasha Pyar (Money Addiction Love), was released in 2006 under Universal Music Group Pvt. Ltd. India and Ishq Records, UK making it the first ever full-length Desi-Rap album to be released by a major label. Hailing from California USA, Bohemia unloads automatic rounds of street-savvy Punjabi raps interlaced with pounding kicks, chunky bass lines and contagious melodies. After having burnt up music charts with his Bollywood songs, Bohemia s highly awaited album Da Rap Star has finally released (Universal Music Group, April 2009). Da Rap Star, written and produced entirely by Bohemia hit No1 on the Planet M/Music World Chart in Punjabi, India, and is currently on No2 on Universal Music India s Top 5 Chart.
